Imke's Luau

Last Friday, October 5, we celebrated Imke's 15th birthday.  This was a big milestone in both of our lives.  Over the years, I've had several pets reach the age of 14, but Imke is the first to ever reach the age of 15.  I'm sure lots of people out there would think it's silly, but I thought it was important to recognize this important moment in both of our lives.  I was excited to throw this special girl her very own birthday party to celebrate her many years of life.

I've known for quite awhile that if we made it to Alaska, that would be the final State that Imke would travel to with me.  As my main travel buddy throughout the years, Imke has been to some amazing places across the U.S. and Canada, but I've always known she wouldn't make it to Hawaii with me.  So after reaching our goal of 49 States and 49 State Capitols with our trip to Juneau this summer, it was important for me to bring a taste of Hawaii to her. And there was born the idea for her birthday Luau(thanks to my awesome friend Chastity for planting the seed).

She got to spend some quality time with her favorite girl and some of our good friends.

There were lots of Hawaiian themed goodies for all to enjoy.  Imke happily begged for treats and was rewarded many times over.

Maddie enjoyed the party too.  She was a little less pushy in her begging and was extra adorable in her grass skirt and lei.

Imke was pretty cute in her lei and grass skirt as well.  She was pretty happy that I decided to throw her a party and she made the most of it.

There was coconut cake and ice cream and all of the girls enjoyed the special treat.

Of course, there were also presents...Peaches didn't quite understand the concept, but she really enjoyed the wrapping paper!

Imke really enjoyed opening her gifts and Maddie was happy to help her.  Nicol appropriately likened her to a toddler.  She really thinks opening gifts is a lot of fun no matter what the gift is.

It was an amazing night and we had a good time with our friends who joined us.  They made an already special day even more special.  Once the evening was over, I had three very happy and sleepy girls.

I am so glad that we were able to enjoy this special time together.  It was a marvelous celebration of a very special girl and her very long, happy, and adventurous life.  She really is a once-in-a-lifetime dog.
