Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado

As we continued our journey through Kansas today, I knew it was going to be a long day.  We had a lot of driving ahead of us to cover some really out-of-the-way places.

We didn't have many stops planned, but we had a distance to travel between them with most of our travels through small towns and farmland.

After a couple of hours on the road,  we reached our first destination,  the Cimarron National Grasslands.  One of the highlights of this stop is Eightmile point, the spot where the borders of the States of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado meet.

The marker is in the middle of a dirt road surrounded by farmland and the National Graslands.  I made sure that all three of us stood in all three states together.  Peaches would have preferred to explore the area.

We continued our journey through the grasslands and stopped at a few of the highlights along the way.  My favorite spot was the Point of Rocks.

The girls enjoyed the opportunity to get out of the Jeep and explore the area too.

Next we headed Northwest toward Weskan Kansas to visit Mt. Sunflower, the highest point in Kansas.

The "peak" is on private property,  but the property owners allow visitors to the spot. Just a 1/2 mile West from this location is the Colorado border.  While it looks fairly flat, there are rolling hills surrounding the area and it is a pretty view.

The girls were happy for another opportunity to do a little off-leash exploration.

We left Mt. Sunflower having gone as far West as we could possibly go in Kansas and it was now time to begin our travels East.

We made a quick stop in the town of Goodland where we visited the Giant reproduction of Van Gogh's Three Sunflowers in a Vase.  There was also a nice park nearby so we took a walk around town before getting in the Jeep to  head to our hotel for the night.

Even with all of the driving, it had been a good day.  We are really enjoying our road trip together.

After a long day, we were all happy to settle in to the hotel for the night.
