February Adventures

Happy Sumday and welcome to March.  I know I've been missing lately, but I wanted to take some time to share our February adventures with you.  While it is the shortest month of the year, we definitely packed a lot into it!

I have been trying to take a trip to Copper Harbor since before Christmas,  however, every time I'd make plans to go, the weather wouldn't cooperate. Earlier this month, I made plans to take advantage of President's Day  weekend and head North, and we were finally able to make the trip.

We left first thing Friday morning and made it to Mackinaw City in time for lunch.  Before getting my pastie and crossing the Bridge, we made time to stop for a walk around the beach and a short walk on the North Country Trail.   This is always a great place to stop with the girls to stretch our legs and add toward our Hike 100 miles.

After an hour in Mackinaw, we were back on the road heading through a beautiful and sunny UP.  It was a great day to be on the road and, after our stop, the girls settled in nicely for the rest of the drive to Eagle Harbor.

Once in Eagle Harbor, it didnt take them long to make themselves right at home.  The best part of the day was a visit from our good friend Bryce and a quiet dinner in our room.  Bryce spoiled the girls and it was nice to have some time to catch up with him.

The next morning, we were happy to have some time to explore Eagle Harbor and Cricket got her first views of Lake Superior.

After briefly exploring town, we headed to Great Sand Bay to spend some time in the woods, exploring some really awesome trails with Bryce.

The girls loved their time out in the woods enjoying all of the sights and smells.  I enjoyed the peace and beauty of the day.  After a day of exploring, the girls were happy to head back to Bryce's house to take a nap. It was a day well-spent.

Sunday Peaches, Maddie, and Cricket were ready for more adventures so we loaded up the Jeep and headed out for more Winter fun.

First we explored Esrey Park, which I love in everything season.  It was blustery and cold on the Lakeshore, but it was beautiful as always.

We also spent some time walking around Eagle River and checking out the frozen waterfalls.

After a day of exploring, we enjoyed another visit with Bryce.  The girls got lots of love and treats while we were there.   I think everyone had a good day.

Before I knew it, our weekend was over and it was time to head home. Of course we couldn't leave the UP without a quick stop in Munising. Aftet grabbing lunch and taking some time for a walk, we were back on the road and heading home.

I am so glad we were able to make the trip, but it never seems like we have enough time there.  I'm happy I was able to share a Winter adventure with Cricket and that I got some time to spend with a friend.

Back at home, I was able to make it to Chesaning to watch Mason play a home basketball game against Montrose.  Every time I see that kid I can't believe how tall he's getting!  It was a fun time at the game and an Indian win.

Cricket enjoyed several trips to work with me throughout the month.  She always loves coming to the office with me and she gets spoiled every time she's there.

We also continued to make progress toward our hike 100 miles on the NCT.   We had a great time on the trail in Battle Creek and were able to get 5.8 miles in one day which is an great day on the trail with Maddie. and led to a very quiet Saturday evening and a quiet Sunday too.

Probably the best part of the entire month was Cricket's meeting with a new family.  The meeting went very well and I was so excited when they decided she would be a good fit for their home.  Her new mom was so excited to adopt her and take her home.

To celebrate Leap Day and Cricket's adoption, we decided to take advantage of the sunny day and get out on the trail again.  We were thrilled to be joined by Vanessa and our friend Claire, who had arrived in town from Australia less than 24 hours earlier.

The girls anxiously awaited the arrival of Vanessa and Claire and were happy to have friends to spoil them while I was driving.  We headed off to Battle Creek to hike the Linear pathway section of the North Country Trail.

After a 3.2 mile hike, Maddie was ready to head back to the car.  We couldn't leave town without grabbing a special Leap Day geocache and a puppachino at Biggby.  I'm excited to say that we hiked over 17 miles on the trail in February and are just shy of 30 miles for the year.  I'm pretty proud of our progress.

I got home from our hike in time to head to the Don Johnson Fieldhouse, just 10 minutes from home, to watch Mason play in the Spartan Classic Basketball Tournament. I had to take advantage of seeing him play right here in Lansing.

Our Sunday started with some work around the house which led to a trip to Menards and to Stock and Field.  Since Stock and Field is dog-friendly, the girls got to go in with me while I shopped. They were very well-behaved and got lots of attention from the customers and employees there.  We then headed home for a relaxing Sunday.

It has been a busy month which flew by so quickly.  I'm excited for our continuing adventures in March as Spring draws near and the daylight hours grow longer. Hopefully you'll continue to follow us on our journeys.
