Happy Sunday everyone. I've committed to myself staying on track with a weekly blog post this year, even if there isn't much to say. The blog this week won't be very exciting because it was a pretty boring week, but I'm keeping that commitment.
I left my house before sunrise on Monday to drive to the airport for my flight to Orlando for our Leadership Conference. I rarely fly direct from Detroit, so it was strange finding parking and going through security there, but all went smoothly. Our flight was slightly delayed at departure, but overall the flight was smooth.
We landed in Orlando and I made my way to the bus that would take us to the resort. Once everyone who was to take the bus arrived, we were off for the 45 minute drive to the resort where the meeting was being held. I checked in and was finally able to make it to my room and then grab a late lunch before getting changed and heading to our first meeting of the week. The rest of the day was spent in a meeting or at our welcome reception with 700 people, most of whom I've never met. It certainly made it hard to find the people I actually know!
The picture above is the view from my room Tuesday morning before the longest day of the week began. For the next 14 hours pretty much all I saw was the inside of the conference center. It was a long and exhausting day...definitely not my idea of fun.
Wednesday morning started the same as Tuesday, but I did have something to look forward to that day. We had a couple hour break in the afternoon, and I was looking forward to having some alone time. Still, I spent about 7 1/2 hours in the conference center. But boy was I happy when 3:15pm arrived.
I had one goal for my break: take a walk off the resort property to pick up a geocache about six tenths of a mile away. I got my geocache and a couple more and ended up walking just over 4 miles. After sitting in meetings for so long, this walk is just what I needed. I even had time to sit down and stick my feet in the pool for a few minutes before heading to our evening event.
Four more hours of meetings on Thursday morning was followed by the 45 minute ride to the airport and very slow airport security. Thankfully I was able to grab a quick bite to eat at the airport before boarding my flight back to Detroit. It was a bumpy flight, but we made it back safely.
We landed on time and I made my way to the parking ramp for the drive home. I picked up some dinner on the way home and arrived to a very quiet and dark house, very thankful to be home! I spent the night without the girls since I wasn't home in time to pick them up from boarding, but I was able to do a little catch up on some work items before just relaxing for the night. Boy had it been a long, exhausting week!
Friday morning was busy with some Teams meetings and calls I had to make and just trying to catch up after a week out of the office. I finally left home at 11:30am to pick the girls up from boarding. It was a happy reunion, although I'm pretty sure I was happier to see them than they were to see me.
Mina was a busy body all afternoon while I continued my work day, but Peaches was happy to lie down under the desk and not move. We took a nice walk around the neighborhood after I finished my work day and then we settled in for a quiet evening. It was nice to be home.
Apollo are 12 week old puppies who were moved from Iowa to their foster homes here in Michigan. I dropped them off in Flint for the final short leg of their very long journey. Boy were they cute and really good passengers too.
I was fortunate enough to also get to add little Chopper to the transport. He came from a breeder in Michigan and is just six weeks old, but he has a serious health condition which requires an extremely expensive surgery. The rescue is going to help him get that surgery. I was told that if he gets the surgery, he has a 90% chance of living a completely normal life. Without it he won't live to see his first birthday. Things like this make me so proud to be part of the rescue community. I sure hope the little guy lives a long and happy life.
We had some snuggle time this morning and the girls are now out playing with their friends. I've got lots to do today around the house, but I think we'll get out for some fun too. Mainly I just want to have a lazy day at home, but I know that won't happen with a GSP puppy. I'm just so glad this conference week is over and I have a long weekend to recover. Mostly I'm just glad to be home with the girls.
