Our final day

For our final day in Juneau we planned to drive North out of town on Highway 7 to the end of the road.  This is the main road through Juneau and ends very abruptly at both ends.  Sunday is a big day for cruise ships in town, so we decided to avoid the downtown area and explore other areas.  We awoke to some pretty steady rain so a drive out of town sounded perfect.

Our first stop was the Shrine of St. Terese.  It is a beautiful area with walking paths and a little church in the woods.

The girls loved all of the new things to smell and had a great time exploring this area.

We then made a stop at the Ernest Gruening State Historical site.  The forest there was amazing.

After a short hike, at the Gruening State Historic Site, we headed to Eagle Beach.  It is the location where the Eagle River enters the Gastineau Channel.  It was raining very steadily while we were there, but we still took a short hike around.  It was beautiful.

After our hike at Eagle Beach, we were back in the Jeep to see what else we could see.  I was pleasantly surprised by some more beautiful scenery.

And then there we were, at the end of the road.

We took the lovely drive back toward our little Juneau home, drenched and happy with our adventures, grabbed a bite to eat, and filled the gas tank to prepare for the next leg of our journey.  We've spent the afternoon relaxing and watching some Netflix.  The Jeep is packed up for our return trip to Skagway to start our journey toward home.  The dogs are snoring away and we are having a nice afternoon in watching the rain fall.  We've done everything I wanted to do in Juneau and have seen more than I ever expected.  It has been a fantastic time here and I'm so glad I made the drive!

Someday I'll be back!
